Happy Birthday to the Second Church Nursery School
“You get what you get and you don’t get upset” “More friends equals more fun” Ever since my Elizabeth attended the Second Church Nursery School seven years ago, these have been words to live by in our house. As the school celebrates its 75th anniversary this fall, I want to thank Elinor dare and the wonderful, nurturing teachers there for helping construct the healthy foundation upon which Elizabeth, and many other children in the community, has been built. The Second Church Nursery School promotes a child’s growth through enhancement of motor, social and cognitive skills. The school also believes that “play is serious business.” In addition to benefiting young students, Second Church Nursery School has had a significant impact on many a family’s social life, long after their child has moved on to Kindergarten. My closest friends are fellow “Second Church” parents and our children continue to play together to this day. I am thrilled that Elizabeth and I have maintained such close friendships that developed from this charming school. The richness of The Second Church Nursery School experience will continue for many years to come. The Second Church Nursery School opened its doors as a program of The Second Church on Sept. 18, 1934. FDR was president and “It Happened One Night” won an Oscar for best picture. Programs were held at the Second Church Parish House five mornings a week for a handful of children. Today, attendance has more than tripled and the school serves approximately 80 families. The school has graduated about 3,000 young children and many of these students are second generation alumni. On behalf of many grateful families, happy 75th birthday, Second Church Nursery School. Thanks for giving many of us the best present of all – more friends and more fun!
